About Us
Ryu Do Shotokan Karate Academy was founded in 1994 by Chief Instructor Brian Bentham who teaches the style of traditional Shotokan Karate throughout his clubs.
He has since been joined by senior instructor Sarah Lossman, 2nd Dan and they now both take an active role in instructing at the Academy so all students benefit from their combined karate experience of over 40 years. All instructors are fully CRB checked and the top quality instruction given has seen the Academy go from strength to strength within the local community and beyond.
The Academy welcomes anyone interested in learning karate regardless of ability or age whether it be to improve fitness, acquire self defence skills, build confidence or simply for a new hobby within a welcoming and social setting. The Academy also caters for those wishing to train for serious competition, both at national and international level and advance through the grading system.
The club now benefits from a dedicated karate kidz class for beginners and intermediates from ages 5 to 10 years old. We also have a family/mixed class on Wednesday evenings in Lowton and a mixed class on Friday evenings in Ashton where children and adults of all abilities can train together in a more informal environment.
We welcome all enquiries so please do not hesitate to contact us or just come along & join in!
