LATEST NEWS & RESULTS

Thursday 15th October saw the 2nd Ryu Do inter-club competition take place at Golborne high school, the night was yet another great success with 30 students taking part from our Golborne, Ashton and Lowton Dojo's. First up was the Pee wee kata section with 18 young students taking their first go in a competition atmosphere. The standard was very good overall with quite a few showing promise , after 4 gruelling rounds the top three where ; Alexander Aspin 3rd place (Lowton dojo), Cameron Burns 2nd place (Golborne Dojo) and Charlie Sanderson 1st place (Lowton Dojo). Next up where the 6th -4th kyu open age section where we had to combine a couple of groups , never the less it was very good with the top three being ; Jessica Hargreaves 3rd place (Golborne Dojo), Luke Ashton 2nd place (Golborne Dojo) and George Reid 1st place (Golborne Dojo). Last kata section was the 3rd kyu and over with some very keen students wanting to get their hands on the first place medal, again after some superb kata being displayed the top three where; Finlay Stewart 3rd place (Golborne Dojo) Tom Hindley 2nd place (Golborne Dojo) and Katie Hargreaves taking 1st place for the (Golborne Dojo) All those taking part in the kata showed a really good attitude and considering this was their first time in front of a crowd of around 50 peope they showed promise and determination to do well. " Well done "

The Kumite sections started again with the Pee wee group of students, the standard again overall was very good and the control was excellent. one young man who deserves a mention was Harvey Gallimore . Knowing Harvey as I do I thought he was going to make a good impression and he didn't let me down. Harvey is a quiet lad by nature and is a very keen student but once the action started he was right on the button with his scoring, picking off his opponants with his reverse punch "good lad Harvey " he went on to take 3rd place for the (Lowton Dojo) after going through 3 rounds..Kyle Whelan another very keen student fought well and came 2nd for the (Lowton Dojo) Kyle is a great little lad always smiling and joking but when the class starts he is as serious as they come "well done Kyle " keep it up. As for our eventual winner Charlie Sanderson he was pocket dynamite to say the least, he was moving around the mat like a seasoned professional his opponants could not cope with him a very good performance indeed and a well deserved first place medal for Charlie and the (Lowton Dojo).

Next up was the slightly older boys group with some keenly fought bouts, eventual winners where; Mark Southworth 3rd place (Golborne Dojo), Alexander Aspin 2nd place (Lowton Dojo) and the winner Warren Fishwick for the (Golborne Dojo) " Well done Warren".

On next where the mixed group including Stephanie McKeever (Ashton Dojo), Lucy Rampling (Ashton Dojo), Ami Timms (Lowton Dojo) and Callum Harrison (Lowton Dojo). some very keen exchanges from all students during this category showing that grit and determination to do well . Lucy and Stephanie took joint 3rd place for Ashton, Ami took a creditable 2nd place for Lowton with the outright winner Callum Harrison with his superb roundhouse kicks took a really well deserved 1st place for the (Lowton Dojo) excellent Callum.

On with the show and the next group 6th-4th kyu, a small but excellent little group . we had to do a round robin to get through this one with each student fighting each other evetually final result was ; Tamzin Woodhead 3rd place (Golborne Dojo), Luke Ashton (Golborne Dojo) and George Reid taking the firts place medal for the (Golborne Dojo)

Next up where the 3rd kyu plus juniors, Finlay Stewart, Ben Ashton, Michael Hill and Katie Hargreaves. 4 excellent little fighters giving their all during the elimination rounds, but as the fights progressed it was the more determined that shone through. Final placings where as folows; Finlay and Ben joint 3rd for (Golborne Dojo) Michael 2nd for (Golborne Dojo) and the winner Katie for (Golborne Dojo)

The last category belonged to the older juniors mixed grade, with Megan Williams, Jessica Hargreaves and Tom Hindley taking part.

The are students for their size pack a real punch and show that real grit and determination to go far in competition.

Yet another round robin saw them go up against each other none of them wanting to give their opponant a inch of advantage, however the category came to a end with the placing asfollows; Tom in 3rd place for (Golborne Dojo) Jessica in 2nd for (Golborne Dojo) and the eventual winner Megan taking the first place medal for the (Golborne Dojo)

Ryu Do would just like to thank all those students that took part in the competition and all the Parents for your support "I hope you enjoyed the experience" . A big thank you also to the officials for helping to run the event so smoothly.

Photographs will appear soon.
